What are the Products and Procedures Used in Our Dry Eye Treatment?
The lack of correlation between clinical signs and symptoms of dry eye disease makes diagnosing and treating patients a challenge. Often times, inflammation is present before the clinical signs of dry eye. InflammaDry® is the first and only, rapid result, in-office test that detects elevated levels of MMP-9, an inflammatory marker that is consistently elevated in the tears of patients with dry eye disease. All other dry eye tests measure tear production and stability. Using a simple 4-step process, InflammaDry® recognizes elevated levels of MMP-9, to identify patients that may otherwise be missed with other dry eye testing methods.
By using InflammaDry®, Traverse City Eye ophthalmologists can:
- Make a rapid, accurate diagnosis at the point-of-care
- Reduce complications associated with dry eye
- Help improve clinical outcomes and patient quality of life
- Identify and treat dry eye disease prior to surgery for better post-operative outcomes
Prokera® is a therapeutic device used by eye doctors around the world to protect, repair and heal damaged eye surfaces. Prokera® is made by clipping a piece of amniotic membrane tissue in between two rings made out of a clear, flexible material.
Amniotic membrane is part of the placenta and is the tissue closest to the baby throughout development in the womb. Amniotic membrane protects the baby from any harm and has natural therapeutic actions which help the baby develop. The tissue has healing properties that aid in ocular surface repair.
The amniotic membrane tissue in Prokera® has natural therapeutic actions that help damaged eye surfaces heal. Eyes treated with Prokera® have quicker healing, less pain, less scarring, and less inflammation. The amniotic membrane in Prokera® is thin and clear like the tissue on the surface of your eye and protects your eye’s damaged tissue while inserted.
Prokera® is used by eye doctors to treat eye diseases such as keratitis, corneal scars, chemical burns, corneal defects, partial limbal stem cell deficiency and many other ocular surface diseases with inflammation.
With Restasis® and Restasis MultiDose®, your own real tears are a real possibility.
Restasis® and Restasis MultiDose® Ophthalmic Emulsion help increase your eyes’ natural ability to produce tears, which may be reduced by inflammation due to Chronic Dry Eye. Both products do not increase tear production in patients using anti-inflammatory eye drops or tear duct plugs.
Continue to use artificial tears as needed, for temporary relief, leaving 15 minutes between products
Rely less on artificial tears over time as you make more of your own real tears. Individual results may vary. Restasis® offers the convenience to choose between a multidose bottle or single-use vials.
Lifitegrast® (trade name Xiidra®) is an FDA approved drug indicated for the treatment of signs and symptoms of dry eye, a syndrome called keratoconjunctivitis sicca. Lifitegrast® reduces inflammation by inhibiting inflammatory cell binding. It is often used in conjunction with ciclosporin (Ikervis® or Restasis®) for dry eye treatment including meibomian gland dysfunction and inflammatory dry eye.
Cryopreserved amniotic membrane is the ONLY tissue cleared for wound healing by the FDA.
AmnioGraft® is a biologic ocular transplantation graft used by eye doctors around the world to treat ocular surface indications such as keratitis, corneal ulcers, SPK, pterygium, conjunctivochalasis (CCH) dry eye, and Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. AmnioGraft® serves as a tissue replacement by delivering the unique healing actions of cryopreserved amniotic membrane.
Expedite Recovery, Promote Healing
Due to the unique HC-HA/PTX3 complex preserved with Bio-Tissue’s proprietary CryoTek® method, AmnioGraft® expedites patient recovery by reducing inflammation, promoting regenerative healing, suppressing pain associated with inflammation, and achieving a superior cosmetic outcome. This is particularly beneficial with many ocular surface diseases and conditions as the ocular surface can become compromised leading to pain, vision loss, and in some cases an undesirable ocular cosmetic appearance.
The Healing Process
AmnioGraft® is durable and easy to use, and provides lasting cosmetic results. After surgery, full healing is typically complete in two to three weeks.
